Labeotropheus was described in 1926. This genus is probably the easiest to identify because of the underslung mouth it has. This adaptation allows this fish to graze on the algae lawn while staying parallel to the algae's surface. This genus is relatively easy to keep in reasonably sized aquariums. Several males are possible in larger tanks.
